Nat Phillips: West Ham to push ahead with January move despite injury blow as Liverpool hold out for £10m fee

West Ham are prepared to push ahead with a move for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips in January, despite his recent injury.
David Moyes is keen to bring in a central defender next month after both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma suffered long-term injuries - and Phillips had been identified as a target.
However, any move for the 24-year-old looked to be in jeopardy when it was confirmed last week that Phillips had suffered a fractured cheekbone during his superb performance against AC Milan in the Champions League.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, though, is hopeful that the defender will be back in training this week and that, while he will follow an individual training programme, could be fit again by early to mid-January.
Speaking last week, Klopp said: “[It is] not as bad as it could have been. No surgery, he can train pretty much from next week. How long it will take? Around four or five weeks.”
Despite making 20 first-team appearances for Liverpool last season as Klopp grappled with a persistent defensive injury crisis, Phillips has fallen down the pecking order this term following the arrival of Ibrahima Konate and is available next month.
It is thought Liverpool would only sanction a permanent deal with an asking price of around £10million.

Irons could ‘test water’ for winger – report
West Ham could table a January bid for Hull City star Keane Lewis-Potter, according to a new report.
The Hull Daily Mail reports that the Hammers have been keeping a close eye on Lewis-Potter’s performances as they look to draw up a shortlist of potential acquisitions, and could test the water in January.
The 20-year-old has impressed in the Championship in a struggling side, scoring four goals and laying on four assists in 22 games for the club.
Hull are currently 19th in the table, four points clear of the relegation zone.
And the report makes it clear that boss David Moyes is a big fan of Lewis-Potter and is now considering whether or not to launch a bid.
Hull have previously rejected a bid worth £8m from Brentford for Lewis-Potter.
It would be something of a surprise, given that he operates primarily as a winger, and we know that Moyes is desperate to sign both a central defender and a striker in the winter window.
But it’s one to keep an eye on; Moyes certainly has history of signing promising young Championship talents and moulding them into stars.
